Where have I been?

My apologies. A few years ago, my family and I moved from our small Kansas town, to an even smaller Kansas town. With the craziness of a pandemic, an epidemic of kidney stones, not all mine, and losing not one, but both of my parents, I spaced out that losing access to my email meant losing access to my website. It was always something I was going to fix, but whenever I’d start the daunting task, I’d find that technology had left me behind like an old dinosaur, and just like a T-Rex with iddi-biddy arms, it felt impossible!

Like most of us, when faced with a great challenge, I retreated to what I love: writing. After teaching for over twenty years, I still held on to my love of young adults and YA writing. My students were seriously some of my favorite people. Teaching was an absolute blast. It helped that I taught all the fun – ology classes. Psychology. Sociology. Throw in a good helping of Literature classes and for a professor, it didn’t get much better! Blend a love for newly anointed adults with an increasingly crazy world, and I found my writing evolving into something I could either embrace or run like hell from. I chose to give my inner demons a nice big hug–we all need hugs–and found my love for horror.

We’ve been through a lot in the last five years. Inhaling all those Clorox Wipes during the pandemic might have altered all our brains a little. The loss of normalcy and the redefining of it might have had an even bigger impact. Anyway, I hope you are all well. I hope we can get reacquainted on our every-evolving landscape of life. As before, I plan on writing a lot about writing, especially my experiences with being published by a Big Five and everything I wished I’d have known. Might also discuss some normal life stuff, although very little in life seems ‘normal’ these days. Life is…well…pretty tough sometimes, but always, always amazing. So, read, write, listen to some Lord Huron music or whatever gets your soul to smile, and give yourselves a long overdue hug from me! I’ve missed you!

In my world of horror, I'll always keep a light on for you. Or will I?!
